My most memorable moments as a professional golfer came from being a part of three Solheim Cup Teams. After the U.S. Team’s win against Europe last year, we were invited by President Obama to come to the White House and spend time with him. It was an honor to be recognized by our President and he was extremely gracious in giving his time to us.
Before meeting with President Obama in the afternoon, we spent the day touring the monuments and the White House. Upon meeting the President, we took pictures and he chatted with us about his golf game and his recent trip to Hawaii, where he managed to make his first birdie with a 2 iron. The girls and I were of course surprised that he still uses a 2 iron! He also asked us if we had any tips to get his daughters involved in golf. We suggested that he take them to watch us play. We presented him with a left handed putter and he immediately took the cover off and started working on his putting stroke in the Oval Office. He gave us each a golf ball signed with the presidential logo and congratulated us on the team’s victory. It was quite an honor not only be in the White House, but to be congratulated by the President of The United States.
After meeting President Obama, we had a Victory Gala at the University Club with the team, media and sponsors. It was fun to be back with the girls and team captains, Meg Mallon, Kelly Robbins and Beth Daniels!
